Neurotic Drum Band members John Selway and Ulysses are no strangers to Throne of Blood, having contributed solo efforts early in the label’s history (Selway’s “Shake the Snow” and Ulysses “Acid Reflux”). Longtime stalwarts of NYC’s electronic underground, they’ve released countless tracks and remixes on labels like Internasjonal, Bunker New York, CSM, Tronic, Serotonin, Satellite, DK Records, On The Prowl, Cocoon, Darkroom Dubs, Spectral Sound, Relish, Harthuse, Planet E, Kinfolk, Bearfunk, Scatalogics, and loads more. Making their long-awaited return to TOB as Neurotic Drum Band, they’ve brought along the legendary Sal P from Liquid Liquid on vocals.
Reflecting the versatility and eclecticism of their storied journeys through dance music, the trio fuse an unlikely combo of hand percussion, bassbin-rattling subbass, and dubby synths into a slick slow motion floor-filler punctuated by Sal’s cosmic incantations.
A massive collection of remixes from some old and new friends completes this package. LA-based Kompakt affiliate Sonns (aka Alexandre Mouracade of label alumnus Split Secs) picks up where the original ends, reworking NDB’s arpeggio and Sal’s vocals to devastating late night effect. Longtime friend and LCD Soundsystem bassist Tyler Pope follows suit with a remix built from the sort of bongo-laden breakbeat that recalls a little bit of “Fools Gold” and quite a few classic Weatherall remixes.Third in line,1080p affiliate Max McFerren brings a bit of the madcap vibe and techno energy found at his residency at Bossa Nova Social Club. The EP is rounded out by the inimitable Eli Escobar (Classic Music Co.)who ups the tempo and brings this instant slo-mo classic right into the of the dancefloor.
